Economic Analytical of the impact Agricultural Policies of Potato Crop in Egypt

Abstract

The potato crop is one of the most important Egyptian strategic export crops. The main objective of the research is study the impact of the state’s intervention using and estimating the PAM matrix on the crop during (2005- 2019) and using the change segmentation method, the most important results - the results of the method of segmenting the change in the total production of the potato crop at the level of the Republic between the period the percentage of the change in the decrease in the total production is about 13.6%, which is due to the change in both the cultivated area and the feddan productivity together (the combined effect) resulting from the impact of agricultural policies. - it was found that -1.7% of the change in the value of production with a decrease is due to the joint change in each of the area, productivity and farm price of the potato crop, due to the impact of agricultural policies on the value of potato production during the two study periods in Egypt. - the results of the PAM it was found the value of the nominal protection coefficient of the outputs per acre of the potato crop during the study period is less than the correct one, or in other words and found the value of the effective protection factor is less than the correct one for the potato crop,which confirms the comparative advantage enjoyed by Egypt in the production of potatoes as a result of the lower cost of local production than the cost of import.
