Economics of the Production and Marketing of the Potato Crop in Qalyubia Governorate

Abstract

The potato crop is considered one of the most important major vegetative crops in Egypt, as it represents a high percentage among the main food components of consumers and is considered one of the vegetative crops, on which many food industries are based. The research problem is to study the economics of the crop production to enable farmers in taking production decisions, and studying the clear difference between the price that the product and the price paid by the consumer gets. Therefore, the research also focuses on marketing paths and marketing margins and estimating the marketing efficiency of the study crop. The research aimed to identify the status quo of potatoes, especially studying the production variables of this crop and studying the current system for the marketing of potatoes. The most important research results were as follows: that the annual average production of potatoes in Qaliubiya Governorate amounted to about 101.977 thousand tons during the period (2000-2021), and by studying the equation of the general time direction it was found that the production of potatoes in Qaliubiya Governorate had taken a year increasing year and morally, as production reached About 5.676 thousand acres is equivalent to about 5.57% of the annual average during the period of study.
