Assessment of knowledge needs for farmers in the field of physiological disorders of tomato crop in Qena governorate

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to assess knowledge needs for respondents farmers in the field of physiological disorders of tomato crop in Qena governorate, in order to achieve this objective, it aimed to: determine the degree of knowledge need of the respondents farmers in the field of these disorders, determine the degree of need for knowledge fields related to these disorders, arranging knowledge fields according to their priorities, and to identify the correlation between characteristics of the respondents farmers and the degree of knowledge need. This research was conducted of 116 respondents, thay represent 70.3% from total tomato farmers in three villags in Qena governorate. The data was collected using questionnaire by a personal interview during the months of February and March 2023, the data was analyzed using frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, range, and the simple Pearson correlation coefficient, using Excel v.10 and SPSS v.20. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a moderate knowledge need regarding the manifestations of physiological disorders, and those a strong knowledge need regarding the causes of infection and practices to prevent infection with these disorders, the need for knowledge fields related to the manifestations of physiological disorders is moderate, while the need for knowledge fields related to the causes of infection and practices to prevent infection with these disorders is great, the knowledge fields related to practices for preventing physiological disorders came in first place according to their priorities.
