The Role of Agricultural Extension Educational Services in Improving the Skills of Rural Women in Libya

Abstract

This study investigated the role of Agricultural Extension Educational Services (AgEESs), provided by the National Center for Guidance, Cooperation and Agriculture Media, In improving Libyan rural women skills, through measuring the degrees of: benefits of the Rural Development Centres’ (RDCs) training programs;  improving their agricultural and domestic skills resulting from participation in training programs, and identifying the convenience of training conditions, measuring respondents’ satisfaction concerning  the services provided by agricultural resettlement projects through these RDCs.  Data were collected by using a personal interview questionnaire, from a sample of 155 rural women (around 34% of the total number of rural women trainees in RDC programs conducted during (2002-2007). Frequencies, percentages, standard deviation and Person’s correlation coefficients were used for data presentation and analysis.
The most important results were as follows:
The majority of the respondents participated in the training for short periods and more than one-half confirmed the high importance of training subjects. Around 45% of the respondents have medium benefited from training programs. Agricultural and domestic skills of more than one half of the respondents have been highly improved.
 The training conditions were convenient for around one half of the respondents, around 46% of the respondents were highly satisfied about the services provided by the RDCs.
