Farmers Knowledge of Value Chain Improvement Practices for Green Beans Crop in Sohag Governorate

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the level of knowledge of farmers about the practices of improving the value chains of the green bean crop ,and identify the most important activities of the value chains of the green bean crop, and to identify the problems facing farmers during the implementation of the practices of improving the value chains of the green bean crop ,The research was conducted in the sohag governorate in the maragha center in the village of Al_ shoranea ,Random sample of 240 farmers was selected and data were collected using a questionnaire by personal interview with the farmers The most important results reached are the following : The respondents had a high level of knowledge of value chain 
improvement practices for the green bean crop with regard to agricultural operations, amounting to 70.4%, and they had a medium level of knowledge of value chain improvement practices for the green bean crop with regard to harvesting practices, amounting to 63.75%, and they had a low level of knowledge of the practices of Improving the value chains of the green bean crop with regard to postharvest practices, and their percentage reached 53.75%.The results also showed that 83.3% of the respondents stated that the middlemen are the most important activity in the value chains of the green bean crop, and that the most important problems that they face while implementing practices to improve the value chains of the green bean crop are the problem of high prices of production inputs.
